Something new
I put out an album yesterday morning - born in part from real world rage, but also a challenge to myself. I work using only a phone as a production tool - recording live parts directly into it and mixing and mastering solely on a phone app. Lately I’ve been seeing what is possible in terms of sound and scope - like, would it be possible to make a sort of dance album on it?
A couple of months ago I released Confidence of Crisis - a dark record centring around beats, so I knew I could put some rhythms together fairly satisfactorily - but I wanted to go deeper into that world, making bigger soundscapes, still underpinned by beats.
These Arms of Yours is the result. It’s pretty old school in some of the housey piano and samples - I love that sort of thing - and a departure from the ambience and field recordings I’ve mainly put out these past nine months.
Like with everything I make, I have no consideration for the listener - until it comes to release - absolutely zero eye on who will like it, what other artists it might be aligned with, what genre it fits with. Nothing. So, naturally, 24 hours later, with no lead time, promo, label, noise etc - and being highly unfashionable - this new record still has just about an audience of one - that’s cool. It can disappear without trace for all I care, but I wouldn’t change a moment of the process or sound. Artists should just do what they need to do - if anyone is into then it’s a bonus. Thanks for reading and listening, if you do…
Cheers,
